Retinitis Pigmentosa Associated with Other Diseases (Retinitis Pigmentosa Syndromes)
Retinitis pigmentosa is usually an isolated problem; in that only the eye is affected. There are several rare conditions where RP is associated with other problems around the body e.g. hearing difficulties; know as retinitis pigmentosa syndromes. These syndromes are also caused by faulty genes and can usually be diagnosed at a Retinal Clinic (Basic Rules of Genetics and Genetic Research). Some of these syndromes will be described briefly in this section:
