New appointments at RPFB

10 January 2017

RP Fighting Blindness has created the roles of Deputy Chief Executive and Trusts & Major Donor Manager to meet expanding remits.

RP Fighting Blindness has announced two new key appointments to its head office team. Emma Hughes, previously Development and Engagement Director at Visionary, the independent sight loss charity membership body, has been named as Deputy Chief Executive. Deborah Laing, previously Development Manager at Peace Hospice Care, has been appointed as Trusts & Major Donor Manager at the charity.

Emma Hughes, who is on a secondment from sight loss charity Thomas Pocklington Trust, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her new role. Having worked in the visual impairment charity sector for more than nine years, she will be overseeing the organisation’s increasing engagement and communications activities, as well as overseeing outreach campaigns and partnership projects. “I’m delighted to have joined the organisation,” commented Emma Hughes, newly appointed Deputy Chief Executive at RP Fighting Blindness. “We plan to reach out to more people affected by Inherited Retinal Dystrophies than ever before and help create better services and resources for those facing unavoidable sight loss.”

Deborah Laing has worked in fundraising for nine years, across a range of roles, and brings specific skills in donor development and relations to the organisation. “I’m pleased to be working with the charity and filling this new position,” commented Deborah Laing, recently appointed Trusts & Major Donor Manager at RP Fighting Blindness. “I’m joining an established fundraising team and look forward to developing my role and helping build new strategies for donor engagement and retention.”

“2017 promises to be an exciting year for RP Fighting Blindness,” commented Tina Houlihan, Chief Executive at RP Fighting Blindness. “These two newly created roles are a mark of the sustained growth we are enjoying, and they will allow us to further develop key areas of the organisation. Emma’s knowledge and experience of collaborative and partnership working, and Deborah’s understanding of donor relations will prove highly valuable to us. I warmly welcome them both, and look forward to their contributions to our work.”

In other changes to the head office team, Emily Purchase, previously Fundraising Assistant, has been promoted to the position of Challenge Events Coordinator.

We wish Emma, Deborah and Emily the very best of luck in their new roles!
