Music By Ear

Look at Music by ear.

This unique Internet site teaches you how to play various musical instruments if you cannot see musical notation and perhaps cannot even see the instrument. There are courses for many instruments including the piano, guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, saxophone, flute, violin, harmonica, and drums. The tuition is delivered as downloadable MP3 files or can be ordered as audio CDs. It does not use any written notation and is thus accessible to the blind. Basic courses are available for each instrument which assume you know nothing about that instrument or about musical theory. You learn the basics of the instrument and also the basics of musical theory such as the construction of scales and chords. Each time you play a piece The instructor first plays the piece you are learning all the way through as a reference you can play along with. He then breaks the piece into small sections and for each section plays it through slowly and then tells you which notes to play and how to play them, for example which fingers to use for which notes on the piano.

The site also offers a wide range of both classical and popular music pieces which are taught using the above techniques, with pieces suitable for both beginners and more advanced players.

You can download a free example lesson for each musical instrument.
