Be My Eyes App

We’ve recently been made aware of an interesting free app designed for blind and partially sighted people; Be My Eyes.

When launched, the app establishes a live video connection between blind and visually impaired users and sighted volunteers. Then, using their phone’s camera, users are able to ask a volunteer at the other end of the connection to assist them, perhaps by reading something, advising of a potential hazard or directing where something is.

Be My Eyes has over half a million visually impaired users registered in 150 countries, and is available in 90 different languages. There are no limits on the number of times you can use the service which is currently available for download in the Apple App Store, with an Android version in development. According to the Be My Eyes website, the service matches a user and a volunteer within 60 seconds 90 per cent of the time.
